Amazon.com Product Description
The Polar F6 heart rate monitor is a great choice for using in large groups where other exercisers might be using wireless training gear that could interfere with your own signal. The F6's coded transmission prevents crosstalk with other monitors so you'll get a personalized workout--even in a class environment. It's packed with innovative training features to help you toward your exercise goals, including:

The F6 displays your heart rate, exercise time, and average heart rate.
  • Zone Pointer: A visible and audible feature on the display of your heart rate monitor showing your target heart rate zone and where your current heart rate is within that zone.
  • Polar OwnCal: This feature shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure with the OwnCal feature. Because the OwnCal tracks both the energy expenditure during one exercise session and the accumulated kilocalories during a longer time e.g. one week, it helps in achieving both short term and long term goals.
  • Polar OwnZone: This feature guides you through an appropriate warm-up routine and automatically determines a safe and effective exercise heart rate zone--your OwnZone--while taking into account your current physical condition.
  • Polar OwnCode: This technology blocks unwanted signals from other heart rate monitors, ensuring disturbance-free transmission of your heart rate data.

The Fitness Bullets feature shows a bullet on the monitor's display for every 10 minutes spent exercising/training in your target heart rate zone. The Time in Target Zone feature calculates the amount of total exercise time spent in your personal target zone. You can use this feature together with the Total Exercise Time to determine the effectiveness of your exercise program. You can also better assess your training data using the included Polar Precision Performance (PPP) 4.0 software and the SonicLink feature, which wirelessly uploads exercise settings to the software or to Polar's web service.

Other features include:

  • Display of heart rate, exercise time and average heart rate
  • 24-hour clock with day/week indicator and stopwatch
  • Large easy-to-read display with split screen
  • One-year average battery life
  • Water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet)

The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

5 out of 5 stars Polar F6 Men's Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review   March 9, 2010
Verona V. Nicolae
The product was shipped in time . Also, the quality was as described on the package.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!   March 9, 2010

I've never had any problems with my F6, it's my constant companion when working out and it's easy to set up, read and monitor. I couldnt possibly ask for anything better. I love that I can do my land workout, then jump in the pool with it on and it continues to monitor my progress in calorie burning.
If this one ever conks out, I'll be the first to buy another. I've had it for three years and never had a problem- i might add that I can be a bit rough of stuff, so it's sturdyness is definitely an added plus!

5 out of 5 stars Great watch, great price!   March 9, 2010

This is the first time I've purchased a heart rate monitor. Because my workout program shoots your heart rate up very quickly ("Insanity"), I needed one to make sure I wasn't out of my THR range. It is easy to use and also counts your calories burned. At the end of the week, it gives you an overview of all your information. I would definitely purchase another watch from Polar.

4 out of 5 stars I Like the Watch...   February 25, 2010

This heart rate monitor watch is without a doubt really cool. It's easy to setup and use. I also like the fact that it beeps at you to remind you to stay within your target heart rate range. It is unfortunate that you can not replace the battery - you actually have to send it in to Polar to have it changed. I'm not at that point yet, but I did notice it said that in the manual.

The transmitter band, on the other hand, is not the greatest. It works and it's not particularly uncomfortable, but I have to be very conscious of the movements that I make because the front part (8" or so) of the band is plastic and it puckers out, away from my body. This isn't terribly difficult because I'm using the watch and band on my stationary bike. I've noticed that as I've worn it more, it's begun to mold to my abdomen, but It still seems too big and doesn't fit as tightly as I would like, even when it is tightened all the way. I do not notice it slipping, but that could just be because I am being so conscious of keeping my upper body still. That being said, I am not sure how the band will fare when the weather warms up and I try to jog with it on.

The watch is great. If you really like the style or color of this watch absolutely get it! However, you should also consider getting the Polar WearLink+ Coded Transmitter and Belt Set. It's a flexible cloth band that is much easier to wear (my mom has it). It also happens to be the transmitter belt that comes with the Polar FT4 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch which, by the way, you can change the battery yourself on...

5 out of 5 stars Great product!! Recommending it to everyone I know!   February 22, 2010

I am completely in love with my new Polar F6! I purchased this product (at the recommendation of my trainer and Zumba instructor) to help me with my weight loss goals. The calorie counter especially is important to me, because if you know how many calories you're burning you know how many calories you can reliably eat and still lose weight. So far I think it's done a great job helping me make my workouts more efficient. I have not even had it a full month yet and am already beginning to see results.

I first tested this HR monitor against different exercise machines with HR grips available in my gym. The goal was to test the accuracy of the reported HR, and the HR reported by the F6 was exact every time. Even better, all of the machines received my HR directly from the transmitter whenever I used it, so I didn't have to hold onto any of the grips, allowing me to focus on my technique and keeping my HR within my chosen level. I haven't yet lost any weight in pounds, however because I have now been able to control several of my workouts to the most efficient fat-burning range, I am beginning to see more muscle definition and changes in my shape and the fit of my clothes, indicating fat loss - which is what I want! I have no doubt that my shape and weight will be where I want them to be in the very near future.

The unit itself is very easy to use. I would definitely recommend completely reading through the instruction booklet that comes with the unit at least twice through before using, to make your first use easier. I would also recommend using it for the first time during an easy workout, such as use of an elliptical machine, so you can change the controls at will and get used to using it. I found navigation through the different options to be very user-friendly, and I loved the backlight, which made monitoring my HR in the darkness of my spin class easy. The transmitter was also easy to use - the included elastic strap was more comfortable than I expected, and you barely know it's there once you get started.

I loved the fact that the F6 records your exercise files and can hold so many, and that you can view the information contained in so many different ways. In fact, the Files features were what made me purchase this one over the F4. The only thing I could possibly identify as negative at this point is that although you can delete your exercise files after uploading them to the Polar website (via your computer's microphone), you can only delete the daily files from the wrist unit one-by-one (instead of by batch), and though you can reset the total counters, your weekly summary files can't be removed. You basically have to wait for 12 weeks (when the File memory capacity is maxed and it begins recording over older files) for that data to be removed. For me, however, this is an almost forgettable issue, since I tend to look at my daily progress on the unit and my weekly progress on the Polar site anyway.

Overall the F6 is a great starter product at a great price. I am recommending it to anyone and everyone. It's got a lot of settings helpful to the first-time user, and they're very easy to use. I'm not sure what additional features are available on some of the higher-priced models, but this one perfectly meets my needs. Some of the other great features on this particular model include the ability to quickly upload your exercise data from the wrist unit directly onto Polar's Personal Trainer website, the ability to lock the buttons during your workout (important!), and ability to adjust your preferred HR zone during your workout without stopping recording. Again, I recommend this to anyone and everyone!
