Amazon.com Product Description Featuring a new, slim design, the F4 is Polar's first heart rate monitor designed specifically for women. It's packed with innovative training features to help you toward your exercise goals, including:
Zone Pointer: A visible and audible feature on the display of your heart rate monitor showing your target heart rate zone and where your current heart rate is within that zone.
Polar OwnCal: Shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure with the OwnCal feature. Because the OwnCal tracks both the energy expenditure during one exercise session and the accumulated kilocalories during a longer time (e.g. one week), it helps in achieving both short-term and long-term goals.
Fitness Bullets: Shows a bullet on the monitor's display for every 10 minutes spent exercising/training in your target heart rate zone. The Time in Target Zone feature calculates the amount of total exercise time spent in your personal target zone. You can use this feature together with the Total Exercise Time to determine the effectiveness of your exercise program.
Key Features:
Display of heart rate, exercise time, and average heart rate
24-hour clock with day/week indicator and stopwatch
Large easy-to-read display with split screen
One-year average battery life

About Polar The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.
easy to set up!February 15, 2010 Laurie(Plymouth, MI) This monitor was very easy to set up. I have a little bit of trouble occasionally where the monitor starts measuring the heart rate and then stops during my workout. That has only happened a couple of times; no big deal...so that day, I can't record my HR.
Stopped working twice within a yearFebruary 13, 2010 G. Wilf 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this item for my wife when she started going to the gym. Despite its specifications, this watch didn't resist water. When it first stopped working we sent it to be fixed at Polar labs and it took them almost a month to return it "fixed". My wife decided to be careful with the watch (again, it's supposed to be water resistant 30M) but when she forgot to take it off going into the swimming pool after two month it again stopped working.
I am not going to purchase another device from Polar. I've had over the years 3 of their products and it seems that Timex has more durable products.
Entry level heart monitorFebruary 10, 2010 C. Harrington(Scituate MA) If you want a simple, basic heart rate monitor this will work for you. It works well and does exactly what it says it will do.
It's my first monitor so I wasn't sure which features I'd need.
Now that I do have some experience with it, however, I do know now I'd go with a more feature rich model.
This model does NOT keep a record of individual results for multiple activities in a single day.
The display will show either HR% or BPM (beats per minute) but not both at the same time.
You cannot upload your workout results to Polar's website.
And some of Polar's other models have additional functionality that sound interesting (whether I'd use them or not, I'm not sure).
Once my battery dies I'm going for either the F6 or F11.

I really like the product but wish Amazon would have indicated the size of the transmitter band that goes around your chest. There are different sizes, but this information wasn't available when I ordered the watch. Overall, I've had no problems with the product.
Awesome!January 28, 2010 S. Fakir(NYC) Calculates the calories burned for every activity - gives best assessment! beeps if you are below the necessary heart rate. Love it!!!
