About Mio The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer's advice.
Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world's first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

Works for resting heart rate, not activeSeptember 9, 2010 Adam I purchased the watch because I didn't want a chest-strap heart-rate monitor. I've only successfully measured heart rates in the range 40-90 bpm; higher than that it has always failed. It goes into the "checking heart rate" mode and sits there for up to a full minute without displaying. Besides that, the heart rate monitor buttons are incredibly awkward to use.
I give it 2 stars because it is acceptable as a stopwatch and is not too bulky.
Not PracticalAugust 20, 2010 JM(Honolulu, HI.) This heart rate monitor boasts no chest strap required. However, to read your heart rate you have to hold your fingers on those two silver buttons in order to get a HR readout. This is totally impractical while exercising. I was very disappointed with my purchase. This unit is more like a watch that will measure your heart rate when your so inclined to hold your fingers on the two buttons for several seconds. Buyer beware!
Convenient on its own time...August 9, 2010 HaleyCB I received the product in a very short time, which I was very pleased with. Truthfully I made this purchase to "keep an eye" on my heartrate. I have a mild heart condition and having an available way to read my BPM was a comfort. The only complaint I have about this watch is that it often gives the wrong BPM, if any at all. So when I need it the most, I have to drag out the large monitor because the watch is not as dependable as I hoped.
DisappointedJune 14, 2010 Inscoism(Irvine, CA) I had high hopes for this heartrate monitor and I was let down. The monitor only returns a heartrate about 50% of the time when I am in the middle of an intense cardio workout - this is when I need it the most! When I am not working out, the monitor returns a heartrate 100% of the time. This makes the monitor virtually useless to me. It seems to work better when my wife uses it but even she has experienced the same issue. I am back on the market for a monitor w/a chest strap. They may be bulky and somewhat uncomfortable but at least they work.
Great! No chest strap neededMay 3, 2010 Jule36(Jacksonville, FL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great product and gives me motivation to work harder throughout a workout. The downside is its big, and i have a tiny wrist, but i could order ladies sized straps to solve that. also, i guess i am a nervous person, because i cannot ever get the resting heart rate to what my doctor tells me it is, so I leave it on the default 70.
